Specific Adjustments

“A specific adjustment is one which takes in account the exact location, direction, and force required to restore balance and remove interference to the central nervous system.” – Dr. Jeff Miller

Chiropractic is based on the fundamental principle that the proper alignment of the spine and the optimal functioning of the nervous system is vital to achieving a healthy, well-balanced life. It is the chiropractors job to create an environment that facilitates the body’s amazing, innate ability to heal itself.

The delicate spinal cord is protected by the moveable bones of the spine. Nerves exit between the bones and bring information from the brain to all the organs and cells of the body, allowing them to function optimally. Therefore, chiropractors focus their attention on ensuring proper spinal alignment.

No part of your body escapes the dominance of your nervous system. Improper function of the spine due to misalignments – called subluxations – can cause poor health or function, even in areas far removed from the spine and spinal cord itself. Even the slightest malfunction of your spine may alter the regular transmission of nerve impulses, preventing that portion of your body from responding optimally.

When subluxations occur, chiropractors use specific techniques to return the vertebrae into their proper positions or mobilize them so they can move freely. These techniques are called spinal adjustments. During an adjustment, the vertebra is freed from the misaligned position and returned to the proper position in the spinal column. The goal of an adjustment is to correct spinal alignment, remove interference to the nervous system, and improve your body’s physical function.

BJ Palmer, the developer of chiropractic would always say, “Chiropractic is specific or it is nothing.” Dr. Miller has spent the last 20 years learning how to provide the most specific spinal adjustments possible. Dr. Miller feels it is the preciseness of his analysis and adjustment technique that sets him apart from other chiropractors.
