In a career that has spanned more than half a century, Dr. Pettibon has been unrelenting in demanding that chiropractic deliver on its promise: provide health care that enables the human spine to maintain its optimal structure for normal function. His first challenge to the profession took place as a student at Cleveland Chiropractic College. "I realized that there was no model of a 'normal' spine. With no optimum normal or optimum spinal position, there are no origins to measure from. To quote Jack Welch, a former CEO of GE: 'One can't prove, disprove or improve that which one can't measure.'" In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Dr. Pettibon established a model of the optimum upright spine and procedures for taking, marking, and measuring x-rays so abnormal spinal form can be measured and treatment effectiveness assessed.
Developed by Dr. Don Harrision, D.C., PhD, MSE in 1980 based on mathematics, engineering and physics, CBP is now the most widely researched chiropractic technique and is proven effective in over 100 articles in prestigious medical, orthopaedic and chiropractic journals around the world. The research continues in collaboration with some of the finest spine researchers today.
What makes it unique is that it involves structural and posture rehabilitation that corrects abnormal spine structure. CBP is the only proven way to consistently change the posture and spinal alignment towards normal. CBP treatment goes beyond traditional chiropractic “adjustment” techniques to find the cause of the pain and then, eliminate it by improving spinal structure and correcting posture using specific exercises, specialized adjustments and corrective traction.
